Dear Sir/Madam
I started seeing Jan about April time. I needed the help of a Health Trainer for many reasons. Over the previous ten years I had become very reclusive and suffered from anxiety attacks if I ventured out for long. I could not cope with crowds or busy places, my confidence and self esteem were very poor also. Ive had serious health problems both physical and mental for many years.
Thanks to the time and patience of Jan my life now has purpose and meaning.
I started writing again and am enjoying a relationship with a wonderful lady.
For most of my life I have been a Christian and believed in my faith strongly but due to my many years of health issues never had confidence enough to enjoy the comfort (spiritually and emotionally) of church. Jan made arrangements for me to visit Father Tony at the Catholic Church in Immingham. Jan took the time to come with me as I was so nervous. From that day I have gone to church 3 days a week and I feel like I have been given a new life.
Also the church is publishing a book of my poems to raise funds. I have never had the guts to do anything with my poems previously but now the sense of achievement is wonderful.
I have also applied to do voluntary work in Immingham with the elderly and children.
I know I will never overcome my physical health problems but the things I have achieved thanks to Jan have given me a feeling of well being and worth I have not had in decades. Jan guided me and let me make all my own decisions but without Jan’s belief in me and the wonderful chats we had I know my life would be as empty now as it was at the beginning of the year. Knowing there are people who believe in me and have faith and understanding has made everything OI have done so far possible.
I wish the service could run for longer than the limited appointments available because of how I have benefited personally.
I would like to say ‘Thank you’ to Jan for giving me back what I thought was gone forever in my life and my own faith.

To whomever this may concern.
I am writing to express my gratitude for the services of Chris Pogson health trainer for the West Marsh and Macaulay area. During my time with Chris my life has been dramatically improved. I first approached him about quitting smoking. He then encouraged me and supported me throughout this and made it a lot easier then it could have been. Chris has also helped me develop an understanding of how to create a balanced diet for my family also how to shop on a budget and still manage to keep this diet going whilst on benefits. After he had helped me with these things he helped me to understand that my past has an effect on my confidence. Although I didn’t want tot accept this at first I soon accepted his help with building my confidence. He supported me in contacting women’s aid. My over all view on the world and how to manage my life has been greatly improved thanks to Chris and his persistence in helping me. He even helped me with the common assessment framework multi agency panel meetings and assessment forms. He has helped me in more ways then I can count. I would like to say that having him as a health trainer is one of the most positive things that has happened in my life and I think that the health trainer program is a very good idea.

Dear Jan and Team
May I just say a very big heartfelt thank you for your support and help in my recent challenge to stop smoking, especially Jan who has been there for me whenever I’ve needed her.
Without her I don’t think this was possible for me to achieve. Jan has kept me motivated on all issues including finding the right help for me, even down to diet and fluid intake.
I gave up on 28th March 2008 and went on nicorette inhalators and the capsules. This has done the trick and I now class myself as a non-smoker and I appreciate what the Health Trainers have done for me. Sense of smell and taste go hand in hand with smoking and I can now do both better than I have done in years.
I do hope Jan gets some form of recognition for what she does and that she gets the chance to help and support more people in their fight to stop smoking just like she has supported me and to get recognised for what Health Trainers do.
I didn’t know what Health Trainers were or what they did for a job. I now know and say what a very worthy job they do.
I shall be eternally grateful for everything Jan has done for me and the support she has given me.
I shall return all my unused cartridges to the Health Trainers so maybe I can contribute to helping someone else to ‘Stop Smoking’.

Dear Chris
I am writing to say that the service of health trainer that you provide has been of great use and help to me.
When I first started to see you I was in a state of depression about my life as well as my body, with your help I am now feeling a lot happier and contented.
I must admit I was sceptical about the service because I assumed it would be just like visiting the doctors, were your spoken at, told what to do and sometimes left wondering what they were on about, how wrong!
My appointments with you are always helpful, you talk with me like I’m a human being and not just an inconvenience. I always feel like I can ask you if there’s something I don’t understand, and you never tell me I must do this.
I also think the service is useful because you only help people with the problems they want help with and not try to change everything else.
The things that I have learnt with you, such as how to deal with problems and nt let them get you down will stay with me for the rest of my life and so are the skills for me to continuously fall back on. I’m also sure that the diet advice that we are onto now will be just as helpful.

I am writing to say thank you for everything you did for me, when I first came to you my life was a mess and my diet was crap to be honest, but with your help and giving me different ways of looking at things you first helped my mental state and got a few things sorted. Then you helped me to sort my eating habits and ways to introduce healthier foods in my diet. You also helped me to build my confidence which has made me happier as I now do several different courses at the local community centre. I am also doing a course through working links to help me get back to work.
I would like to say thank you again as I feel without your help none of this would be happening.
You do a fantastic job keep up the good work

I just had to write and thank you for all the help and advice you gave to me.
I can’t begin to tell you how different I feel, my confidence is back, I now do all my own housework and do all my own shopping by myself. So I am independent once again. I couldn’t have done this without your help, and I cannot thank you enough.
The bonus of course is my weight loss. 2 1⁄2 stones to date, and not a sign of wanting to eat sweet things.
The healthy eating is just a natural thing for me now, don’t even have to think about what to have , and I am enjoying my food.
Now Chris I know that this is what you will want to hear, I had a health check this morning, and my weight was down by 2 ½ stone, my blood pressure was much better, and the glucose test was 5.6 down from 10.2, are you pleased with that? I am.
If it wasn’t for you I would have been struggling not to eat cakes etc. and worrying about getting diabetes, so once again Chris thank you, keep up the good work.

Towards the end of March I felt depressed, out of sorts. I saw Health Trainer and made an appointment. I was seen a few days after an initial phone call. I have had 6 sessions with Mandy, over several weeks. Every time I have felt so much better. She has listened, advised me, and never FORCED me into doing things. This is my last sessions. I will miss coming, but feel 100% better, especially knowing I can came again. She has a wonderful sense of humour which is a great thing.
DO NOT STOP THIS SERVICE.

Deanne has helped me a lot with me losing weight. Not only is she a health trainer but I see her as a friend. I am not a very confident person and Deanne got me to try a Slimming Group and I go there once a week for a meeting and a weigh-in. Through going to see Deanne and going to the group, you have the support that you need to continue losing weight and not give up. If I was not to have met Deanne, I would either be at the same weight or had put even more on. My husband is sick and disabled and I don’t lose weight for anyone but myself but at the same time if I am healthier, it will also benefit my husband and me looking after him. I have learnt it is not just what you eat but about portion sizes as well. Since I have been seeing Deanne I have lost almost a stone in weight. Thank you Deanne for everything.

This is a statement of the help I received from the Health Trainer Carin. I started with sending a text to the telephone number I read on the poster, I just said help. I received a call back the next day and I arranged to meet Carin, whom was a pleasant voice on the end of the line who asked me what was going on and how could she help, I said I was trying to lose weight and I just could not get back on track. Carin made me an appointment and I turned up for my first appointment.
Carin was welcoming and approachable, and she listened and heard what I had to say, and while she allowed me time to express myself I realised at that time really it was not a weight issue I had, I was still grieving for my mum. I guess at that moment a light went on in my head and with Carins patience I started on the road to feeling better with myself. Since then I have made huge leaps in my life, yes am still trying to lose weight although, I have lost a bit of weight (not enough for me) but I do feel better in myself and I have come off my anti-depressants and a new job in hand, I’m happier in myself, and can cope, this was through a text, then someone who listened. Carin has said I can text her with my up dates and if I need her I can always go back to see her. I would recommend seeing Carin, as she was there fore me in a holistic way without her I would still be struggling with my grief. Carin listens, lets you make your own choices and supports your choices. Very professional and caring.
Re: Steps Programme
I would just like to say how much I have enjoyed this programme and how much I have benefitted from it.
Lisa, the Health Trainer who was my original contact has been very supportive and encouraging. She has taken an active interest in what I was doing and has even joined me a number of sessions. This has been greatly appreciated.
I have now completed the course; I am more than a stone lighter than when I started, am wearing a smaller dress size and feel so very much better about myself. I have jointed the gym so that I can continue pursuing a healthier lifestyle, confident that I can use the equipment safely and effectively.
Thank you for providing such an invaluable service.
A Poem for Jan
Dear Janet, a more caring lady one just couldn’t find!
She’s helpful and listens, and is very kind
She advises and never moans or shouts
And explains all in detail what the programme's about!
You can see a clear picture of what you can do
And Jan, well, she leaves all up to you!
I would like to have been Star Pupil Number One
But at present, I just can’t cope with all I should do and all I should have done!
I realise time is ticking by and I must not give in
And throw all Jan’s knowledge and my good days away in the bin
It’s down to me to build willpower and confidence
As good healthy eating and exercise is only common sense
I do need to change things and I do know what road I must take!
And it certainly does not include biscuits or cream cakes!

Keep up the good work, look after yourself and take care, you’re doing a great job, of this I’m sure you see!

With regards to the Health Trainer Programme
I would like first of all to thank Jan who has been my trainer over the last few months. Without whose help and encouragement I don’t think I would have done as well as I have.
I found the programme very helpful and informative. Lots of tips and advice that I would not have thought about myself. The support and encouragement I have been given has been excellent just knowing that if I needed any help, Jan was just a phone call or text message away.
I would gladly tell people to come along and see a trainer as I find it has helped me boost my confidence as well as lose inches and weight. I shall retain Jan’s number so that if in the future I find I need some advice or help in any way I can call and see if she can assist.
